Alter's Fate open for pre-orders

Mar 28, 2009

Alter's Fate has been finally finished and is due to August. Retail price is 12,800 yen. It's pretty expensive, but the figure has 35cm in height and Fate comes equipped with two interchangeable swords. First, Riot Blade is 27cm long, and Riot Zanber is 56cm long. That's quite big and will take up a lot of space. However, Fate looks gorgeous here and her pose is breathtaking.

Photos taken from Hobby Search where you can reserve her. You can get her at Hobby Link, too.

For me, this is a must-have, despite the price. I've said I will get her no matter what, which means that some trivial money question won't stop me. I'm sorry, my poor, pitiful wallet. My pre-order is already in Hobby Link's database.

I wonder what are her hair made of since it should be something light to prevent bending downwards. It would be sad if such a pricey figure deformed.

Animals in Anime - Turtles and Tortoises

Mar 27, 2009

It's time for another animal post and I have decided that today it will be devoted to turtles. Turtles, kame (亀) in Japanese, appear in anime from time to time and they always look quite funny. Turtles are a symbol of longevity in Japan, and the prominent turtle, minogame, that plays an important role in the legend of Urashima Tarou is depicted with a plumy fan-like tail.

Turtles and tortoises are one of my favorite animals and I keep four. I'm a little allergic to feathers and fur so my choice of pets has been always limited to reptiles. Yeah, I could also keep fishes but that's no fun.

Love Hina

Tama-chan

Tama-chan

Let's start with Tama-chan from Love Hina, the best known anime&manga turtle, in my opinion. Tama is male, but all the girls in Hinata dormitory are convinced Tama is a 'she', so she is referred to as she throughout the story. She is onsen-kame, hot spring's turtle, and her full name is Onsen Tamago, meaning Hot-springs Egg. Like all of her kind, she can fly, and a few people seem to have the ability to speak with Tama-chan.

Tama-chan is quite well drawn turtle I think. Her shell seems to be a shell of tortoise rather than turtle, though. As for her facial expression, it's lovable.

Dragon Ball

A tortoise from Dragon Ball. I happened to come across this picture, but I don't know anything about this tortoise. If anybody knew something about it, feel free to write it in a comment and I will update this post.

School Rumble

Kamekichi

Kamekichi

Kamekichi from School Rumble was given to Tsukamoto Tenma as a present by Karasuma. Tenma then spent the whole night trying to figure out what it had been supposed to mean.

Kamekichi is Astrochelys radiata, commonly called Radiated tortoise. Animators did a good job on its shell since the species is recognizable. Limbs and head are similar to those of Tama-chan, both looking like small soft pillows.

Pokémon

Squirtle

Squirtle

I had to put it here. This picture brings back memories of my childhood when the first season of Pocket Monsters was broadcast on TV. Squirtle was my favorite Pokémon at that time. Water-type creature, able to squirt bubbles and water gun from its mouth, and with very disproportional body. However, it's pretty cute.

That's all for today. I can't find any more pictures of turtles or tortoises from anime or manga, but if I happen to come across some, I will update this post.

Recently Acquired Things

Mar 25, 2009

P1000180

This package arrived two days ago and Kagami was eager to open it and get the things inside for her personal use.

P1000181

She still thought she could have it. "Sorry, Kagami, this won't go." Kagami was put away and locked to not butt in anymore.

P1000182

First, Supercell CD + DVD regular edition without that artbook or what it was. I'm listening to it right now. Awesome, I'm glad I've bought a CD after a long while. The reason I bought it was that there was the DVD with Miku videos, Koi wa Senshi, World is Mine, Black Rock Shooter, and Melt. What else could you wish for? I know I could download them from somewhere but it's just a bother, this way was easier.

P1000183

It's a great selection of songs.

P1000187

The design of the CD itself is pretty nice, too. The surface is very shiny and reflects everything. There was wall of my room in the first picture, but I fortunately noticed it. Well, it couldn't have gone unnoticed ^_^

P1000184

Next is Megami Magazine Super Deluxe. It contains about 140 pictures from the first 100 issues of Megami Magazine. They chose awesome pictures for the Super Deluxe edition so it has become an awesome artbook. I will treasure it.

P1000185

I will definitely take and post some photos of the pictures in Megami Super Deluxe, but it will take a while because I am going to mountains on Saturday. It will be very hard to choose what pictures to post. I'd like to post them all, but there are just too many.

P1000186

Last and the most expensive, denshi jisho by Casio. Casio XD-GP9700, to be specific. I had always wanted an electronic dictionary and now this wish has came true. The best thing is I didn't have to pay for it because I got it as a present. Although it's my first time using denshi jisho I have quickly learned how to use it. They made it very easy to control and that's good.

P1000190

Now, I won't have to wait to get to a PC to look how to say something or what does some word mean. The dictionary contains about 60 publications, for example Daijisen, Meikyou, Random House 2, New Kenkyuusha Dictionary, Oxford Dictionary, Oxford Thesaurus, a few more Oxfords, Japanese Counters for Words, and many more various books and dictionaries.

Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha The MOVIE 1st Trailer

Mar 22, 2009

Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha The MOVIE 1st

Finally, the first trailer for Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha The MOVIE 1st is out, unfortunately it can be found only in a very bad quality. If you thought that a specific date of premiere would be mentioned you were wrong. It only affirms that it is going to be this year. The trailer was screened yesterday at Tokyo International Anime Fair 2009, and also a talk-show with Yukarin and King Records' producer, Mishima Akio, was held.

It will be nice to see loli versions of Nanoha and Fate, again, but I still prefer them grown up. To be more specific, I like both, Loli Fate and Grown-up Fate, but as for Nanoha, I very much prefer her grown-up version.

We can do nothing but look forward to it with anticipation. And for us who will not be able to go to watch it in cinema due to the lack of anime spreading in countless countries, I hope the DVD will be released soon after the cinema premiere (I know I will have to wait at least for 6 months, I know) and then it will be quickly fansubbed.

Poll results: Preferred Oppai Size

Mar 20, 2009

The questions of the poll were two this time. One was "What size of oppai do you prefer in anime?" and the second was "What size of oppai do you prefer in real life?". The poll has been concluded and the results are, well, not so unexpected.

What size of oppai do you prefer in anime?
Pettan: 12
Average: 25
Large oppai: 8

I have been expecting more votes for large oppai, but it seems that pettanko have become more popular than girls with "spheric weapons".

What size of oppai do you prefer in real life?
Pettan: 12
Average: 32
Large oppai: 8

Almost the same results as in the first question, only average oppai got even more votes. Pettan and large oppai got the same number of votes in both questions.

It's interesting to do this poll among otaku, because the results are a little different compared to results among other people. The main difference is that otaku in general are more fond of pettan than people who don't watch anime. Well, it's hard to guess why it is like that, and I think there isn't any reasonable answer to it.

Thanks for voting in the poll.

Clannad After Story - episode 22 review

Mar 16, 2009

Finally, the end is here. I think that if you are reading this then you have seen the episode, if not then don't let me spoil this nice moving ending for you, because you would regret it. However, you may not be satisfied with the ending if you really hate deus ex machina, or if you wanted a bad end.

Clannad After Story episode 22

We start in the illusionary world. The robot is trying to move the girl who couldn't walk anymore and fell down on the snow. The robot says to himself that if things were to become like this it would have been better not to bring her here. Exactly the same thing says Tomoya, it would have been better if we never met.

Buried in the cruel cold snow, unable to move, she opens her eyes and talks to the robot. She tells him she saw a dream and finally understood why they were in this world, and that she can't leave this world because the world is she and if she left the world would collapse, and it would result into misery for many people. She tells the robot that there is another world where they live together, too, and that he will lose consciousness and regain it back in the other world. And then, she says to him: "Sayounara, Papa."

Clannad After Story episode 22

Tomoya left Nagisa pass by without raising his voice, but when he regains the part of his mind from the illusionary world, he realizes what mistake he has just done and shouts at Nagisa. She tells him that she was worried he might not have talked to her, and tells him not to regret anything that will happen from now on.

Clannad After Story episode 22

The decision that brings happiness

Clannad After Story episode 22

Nagisa's voice leads Tomoya to the place where wishes come true (Negai ga Kanau Basho - 願いが叶う場所, same as the title of the song from Clannad), and he realizes that the long journey is coming to end.

Clannad After Story episode 22

Tomoya wakes in his room and is holding Nagisa's hand. She has managed to give birth to Ushio and smiles.

Nagisa notices some lights outside the window and Tomoya takes a better look at them. The lights that bring happiness are floating in the air and are heading to the twilight sky.

Clannad After Story episode 22

The new life has been opened for Tomoya, Nagisa, and Ushio. The life everybody wished for, happy moments and also sad moments, but they will always face them together as a family. No matter what hardships are awaiting them, they will always overcome them with the strength of their bonds, because that's what family is about.

The city that is loved by its people loves the people and wants them to be happy, thus it grants them their wishes. But it would never happen if people didn't love the city. It's like a family, Big Dango Family.

Clannad After Story episode 22

Ushio is as good as her mom at baseball. Meaning absolutely hopeless ^_^

Clannad After Story episode 22

What a big spoiler we had in the opening of Clannad's first season.

Clannad After Story episode 22

How could this person become such a lovely warm-hearted kindergarten teacher? That's the power of tsundere!

Clannad After Story episode 22

It suits her.

Clannad After Story episode 22

Ahh~ Kotomi driving a car in a prairie. It's so nice.

Clannad After Story episode 22

He looks strange with black hair ^^

Clannad After Story episode 22

Mei has grown up. And not only in height.

Clannad After Story episode 22

Why is she looking so sad? I want her to be happy, too.

Clannad After Story episode 22

Lively, as usual.

Clannad After Story episode 22

Misae, and her catfriend.

Clannad After Story episode 22

"You know, me's already mature enough."

The episode continues with Fuuko and her sister walking to the hospital for a check-up. However, Fuuko runs off to a forest nearby and finds sleeping Ushio there. At first, we see the Ushio from the illusionary world, but then the one laying her is Ushio from this world.

My final thoughts:

As for me, I love the way it ended. I didn't want a sad ending and I always hoped that something would happen and nobody would die in the end. At least not even Ushio. And I believed it might happen, because everybody knows that Key knows how to make a deus ex machina. In Clannad's case, it worked perfectly.

The way it happened is a little confusing and mysterious, and I have heard a lot of different theories about what actually happened. I think that nobody can say for sure that his theory is the right one, but I will try to explain the mine a little. But I'm sure that my theory is wrong in many parts.

I think that when Akki brought Nagisa to the place where the wish was granted, the illusionary world was born as a token of a bond between the city and Nagisa. Nagisa had to pay for the wish, though, and that's why she got the illness and she would have it until she would have paid off her dept. Ushio was Nagisa's wish and was born even in the illusionary world (don't know how and why though), and Ushio herself was one of those lights that were produced in both worlds. When Ushio in real world died, Tomoya wished for a change and because he was holding one of those lights that bring happiness and can grant wishes, he got the chance to have his wish granted, but he had to pass a trial. He was placed into the point where he could show if he would rather not get to know Nagisa in order to not cause her untimely death, or if he would choose to meet Nagisa again, despite knowing about all the hardships that are awaiting them. He chose the latter in the end, which was the right choice, because it also meaned that he would make a lot of people happy, help a lot of people with their problems, and bring happiness to everybody around. In other words, he would pay for his wish, and also pay off the dept which caused Nagisa's illness. City acknowledged his right decision and rewarded him with a chance for the new life, or rather a chance to come back in time, and also Nagisa's illness was cured. Which means that Nagisa survived the delivery and they could lead a happy family life.

Anyway, Clannad story has come to an end. I cannot say anything else than that KEY did an awesome job on the story about a cynical boy and a shy, ill girl, and KyoAni brought us this story beatifully animated. I believe that Clannad will never fall into oblivion, and there will always be people who will shed tears while watching this emotionally charged, touching masterpiece.

Making of the new Good Smile Company's TV CM

Mar 14, 2009

Good Smile Company

Good Smile Company shot a new CM and presented a video of making of the footage. The video includes a lot of figures in nice settings, also an unpainted version of Black Rock Shooter can be seen in the video.

If you would like to see the actual photos that were taken, you can see some of them at Mikatan's blog. I love the black&white photos of unpainted Black Rock Shooter.

Spring 2009 Anime List

Mar 13, 2009

Spring anime are waiting behind the door and it won't take long before they start broadcasting. That means it's high time to decide what to watch. This season will have some old-new series and some new promising titles and I think that we won't be dissapointed and everybody will find something that will appeal to him or her.

There are various anime on Spring list and I am not decided yet what to watch. But here comes the list of anime which drew my interest.

Shangri-La

A story from the 21th century taking place in Tokyo which has become a tropical city due to the global warming. The city is being reborn as a forest city in order to reduce the temperature, but there are people who are against it.

I will definitely watch this series, because the story seems quite interesting and I really want to see the reconstruction of Tokyo into a forest city.

K-ON!

Adaptation of yonkoma manga about four high school girls who decided to save the musical club, although they can't play any musical instruments.

Another series I will watch. It is made by KyoAni which means the animation should be very good, and the story sounds good, too. I wonder if the skills of the four girls will be match for Kotomi's awesome violin skills ^_^

Senjou no Valkyria: Gallian Chronicles

A fictional historical anime about a war in Europa in 1930's. Europa is divided into two large powers, the Empire and the Federation, and a small independent country between them is attacked by the Empire.

Lots of people talk about this anime as having a potential to be good, but something about it doesn't seem good to me. Don't know if I will watch it or not.

Natsu no Arashi

I don't know well what this will be about, but the story is about a strange girl with mysterious powers. And it is animated by Shaft.

Tears to Tiara

Based on a strategy role playing eroge. I don't know any details about the story but it should be about a girl who was supposed to be sacrificed for a resurrected demon. It sounds good and the animation looks well, too. I will watch this one.

Tayutama -Kiss on my Deity-

Another game adaptation. A boy finds an old relic which is tied to a local legend about lost deity, and then a mysterious girl shows up.

It will be most likely a harem ecchi comedy with nice animation... so I will add it to my watchlist ^^

Asura Cryin'

Story about a high school boy who is haunted by a ghost girl who seems to be his childhood friend. It may be good judging from this description.

Hatsukoi Gentei

Another slice of school life. May watch, may not.

Hayate no Gotoku!!

The continuation of Hayate no Gotoku! I like how they named the second series. Two exclamation marks instead of one, meaning "2nd series". I'm looking forward to a big portion of fun from Sanzenin mansion and related places.

Hayate no Gotoku!! OVA is out since about a week ago.

Other than the above mentioned series a few very interesting OVAs will be released or a part of them has already been released. From those, I watch or will watch Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Rei, Tsubasa Shunraiki, xxxHOLiC Shunraiki, and Spice & Wolf II.

Animals in Anime - Wolves

Mar 11, 2009

Today I had hard time deciding what animals to choose for my post now. In the end, I went with wolves. It's harder and harder because the animals left aren't so frequent in anime.

I've updated the last post, Birds in Anime, after watching Moetan. I added a duck named Arks, because I felt I had to put him there. If you take a look at his picture and characteristic, or if you know him, you'll understand why I couldn't leave him out.

Wolf's Rain

Kiba

Kiba

Kiba from anime series Wolf's Rain. A white wolf that lost his family when the forest where they lived was burned to the ground. He can take an appearance of human in order to disguise himself and blend with the humans. Kiba acts very impulsive and is led by his heart rather than his brain.

Tsume

Tsume

Another wolf from Wolf's Rain. He is a typical loner who feels and says that he doesn't need any friends and partners. However, he evenutally becomes a member of a pack of wolves. I wouldn't want to get to know his fangs better than from a picture.

There is of course more wolves in Wolf's Rain, but I think that two are enough for an example. They are all drawn quite similar, in my opinion.

Ōkami

Ōkami Amaterasu

Okami Amaterasu

Ōkami Amaterasu is a wolf from an adventure video game for PS2 and Wii named Ōkami. The white wolf in this game is a sun goddess Amaterasu from Japanese mythology as the name says. The game itself tells a story of how the land was saved by Amaterasu who took the form of a white wolf.

Mononoke Hime

Moro no Kimi

Moro no Kimi

Wolf from Mononoke Hime. She can be vicious but is also caring. Her ears seems a bit strange to me.

Spice and Wolf

Horo

Horo

Horo, a beautiful wolf from a very good anime based on light novels, Spice and Wolf, or Ookami to Koushinryou in original. Horo is a harvest deity who made a promise with people from Pasroe town to ensure good harvests. As time went by, the townspeople began to forsake Horo and didn't rely on her as they did in the past. She took an appearance of a young girl and left the town with a traveling peddler.

She is very wise and even calls herself as "The Wise Wolf". She often acts quite conceited but from time to time she shows a fragile side of her which has developed when she was isolated for hundreds of years in Pasroe. Horo loves apples and alcohol and is proud of her tail and takes extra care of it.
